Shazar School , Tel-Aviv.

.....I teach in Shazar Elementary School.
My school is located in Tel-Kabir, Tel-Aviv, Israel.
We have a very strong crew of teachers and we all feel a support in any situation from our principle, Sara Israeli, who makes a lot for the school and for the kids.
....Our school has two computer labs. The first one has PC 386 net and works in Windows 3.51 for workgroups. This net is used a lot during the lessons. The kids really enjoy to study here.

..We usually get the original computer programs from the Israeli company CET ( Centre for Educational Technology, Matah ). Last year our school got some new computers Pentium and we are gonna have the second lab computers hooked up to the Internet by September 1998. We all know how important English is. But we no longer have to talk about the importance of English. The word “Internet” is enough. And nobody has to convince the pupils in the more than 100 schools in Israel connected to the Internet. The kids will have to be proficient in English.

No longer will English be a 5-hour affair per week, but it will be thread of interdisciplinary cooperation within the school and beyong it. The Internet will encourage our kids, even the beginners and the slow learners, to communicate in English, not in Hebrew, to be kept updated here to what is going on on the Internet and to be given up to find information. And I am sure that the kids will be taking to English like the proverbial duck to water..

About the “ English Project “:

......Since September 1998 Shazar School is involved in the internet e-mail project, which will develop into additional activities in the classroom. This project means regular exchanges of letters with one of the schools from an English speaking country. Each student has a pen-pal from someplace in the world which he e-mails him throughout the whole year. Working on this project, I always feel a great support from our fine administrator Sara Israeli who placed her trust in our kids.
....It's a great idea to be keypals and share cultures and friendship with my students . I would like the students to get to know something about particular country, state, culture, society. This project covers the use of e-mail. I thought of the following schedule:

Twenty three 5graders are participating in this project. This is their third year of learning English as the second language.
